Guide Dogs visit our school

Year 1 have had two visits from dogs this week and yesterday we were lucky enough to meet two Guide Dog trainers and their dogs, Una and Nelson. The boys were told about how these dogs become Guide Dogs and what the trainer’s job involved. One of the visitors even told us about her first Guide Dog puppy, Grace, who is now fully trained and working in Cambridge taking a student to University there every day.
The boys had chance to ask their own questions, and were surprised to find out that it takes up to two years to train a puppy into a Guide Dog. That’s as long as the Year 1 boys have been in school!
We all thoroughly enjoyed the visit and we now know a little bit more about how Guide Dogs help people in the community.
