A reply from Buckingham Palace!

Yesterday we received a very exciting envelope with a Buckingham Palace postmark on the front. We couldn’t believe it when we saw that there was a card from the Queen inside!

All the boys were amazed at how fast the Queen had written back to us all. It was a lovely card with six photographs taken over the last sixty years of her reign.

 Aren’t we lucky?!

“The card from the Queen was amazing.”  Finlay

I couldn’t believe that she sent a letter back to us at school.”  Zayan

The card was gold and it was really shiny.”  Toyan

We couldn’t believe our eyes when we saw the card. On the envelope we saw the ER on the front.”  Jacob

Paddington Bear is in school

The boys and teachers brought a bear into school for the day.

Everyone made a donation to raise vital funds for Paddington’s favourite children’s charity, Action Medical Research. Our bears joined us in assembly, our library session with Mrs Martin, our computer lesson and the bears were very skilled at using a mouse!
The boys took the bears on a guided tour of the school and the highlight of the day was making marmalade sandwiches and getting to eat them.
See you soon Paddington Bear!

The Queen

1B have been concentrating hard to draw portraits of the Queen. They carefully coloured them and then glued on some jewels to add sparkle!

1B wonder if the Queen reads their blog and will see all their portraits.

Famous nursery rhymes

Nursery Rhymes on PhotoPeach

Did you know that many old nursery rhymes are about London?

Using a computer we typed up our chosen rhyme and printed it off. We drew the London symbol that went with our work and put it all together with a piece of piece of old wallpaper. We absolutely loved doing this and we are very proud of our finished work.

Buckingham Palace, our letters are on their way!

1B have been really busy this week writing letters to the Queen. All the boys have congratulated her Majesty on her amazing achievement of 60 years on the throne.
The boys thought long and hard and wrote an interesting question that they would like to ask her.

“How many palaces do you have in the world?” Zayan
“How many brooches do you have?” Rayan
“How old are your corgis?” Robert, Saahat and Ujesh
“How many dresses do you have?” Finlay
“How many guards do you have?” Vuyo, Toyan and Ashley
“What is the best crown you have put on?” Azaan
“How many places have you been to?” Arnav
“What are the names of your guards?” Rohan
“Do you take care of your corgis differently than we take care of our dogs?” Jacob
“What’s your favourite corgi?” Isak

We made sure they were all written in our best handwriting and we double checked our letters to make sure they were perfect!

London Dramarama

Our class were very excited to take a day trip on a coach to London this week, driven by Ashley in 1B. We waved out of the windows at the Queen when we drove past Buckingham Palace. The flag was flying on the top of the Palace so lots of people were waving too.
We took a swim across the River Thames, it was freezing cold. We had to avoid the other boats on the busy river. Big Ben struck 12 o’clock and was very loud. We were lucky enough at the Tower of London to be allowed to go inside and try on the gold and purple crown. Some of the boys said the crown felt itchy!
The boys loved being in London but we were pleased to arrive back at school in time for Lovell Land. Ashley did a great job driving us all safely back to the city of Nottingham.

1B can run a mile!

Today 1B boys have taken part in Sport Relief by running a mile. Everybody successfully managed to run thirteen or more laps around the playground. It was great fun and all the boys really pushed themselves to complete some extra laps. We were lucky enough to be presented with a certificate at the end of the run by Mr Farman.
3 boys actually managed to run 26 laps of the playground. This means that they ran a massive 2 miles for Sport Relief!
Well done to us all.

Chameleon’s crazy colours!

This week in 1B we have been learning about camouflage. We read the book “Chameleon’s Crazy Colour’s” by Nicola Grant and Michael Terry.
In art we made chameleon’s that can change colour.

This is how we made them.

1. Choose two different colours of oil pastel. A dark and a light colour look good.
2. Colour the first chameleon in one colour and the second chameleon in a different colour. The background needs to be the same colours.
3. Colour the leaves dark green on the outside and light green on the inside.
4. Numbered the strips on each sheet with odd and even numbers.
5. Cut the strips out.
6. Put the strips together in a long line, numbers 1 to 16.
7. Stick down the strips onto a piece of card.
8. Fold into a zigzag and stick on the wall.

 “They look good.” Finlay
“The chameleons look cool.” Isak

Bertie the guinea pig visits 1B

We would like to welcome a new member of our class this week – Bertie the guinea pig. He has settled in very well to his new surroundings and he enjoyed having all the boys give him a cuddle. Thankfully, Bertie didn’t escape and was very well behaved!

Mrs Faulkner came to chat to us and she told us how to care for guinea pigs, what food they like to eat and some very interesting facts about them. We went on a tour around school and saw their outdoor run and night time hutch.

Facts:

Did you know that guinea pigs have no eye lids?
Did you know that guinea pigs teeth never stop growing?
Did you know that Bertie and Bingo, the school guinea pigs are twins?

“I think the guinea pigs are really cute.”   Jacob

“The guinea pigs don’t eat wet food, only dry food.”  Ujesh

“They love to eat dandelions!”  Rayan

“They can’t eat potatoes.”  Rohan

Our first video blog

We all hope you enjoy watching our very first video blog!

The boys have been working very hard making their 3D animal homes and were keen to be recorded live in the school garden. We had many attempts as the tram kept interrupting us. What do you think of them?

Here are some of our comments,
“My favourite animal home is Rohan’s because it has lots of 3D things.” Ashley

“My favourite animal home is Robert’s because the background is really dark and when you look at it from the back you can see the crocodile scales.” Zayan

“I liked Azaan’s home because it has lots of animals in it.” Vuyo

“I loved Ashley’s because it had lots of things that the monkey might use.” Jacob

“I loved Saahat’s because he got a tree from Valentine’s Day and he put it in his home.” Toyan

“I like Zayan’s as I like his treasure box.” Azaan
